Crew Transports 8 Week Old Corby Urgently to Nelson for Care

Written by Sinead Byrne, mother of Corby

On the 5th of July, our 8 week old baby, Corby was suffering from RSV & Covid. Working hard to breath, we took him to Golden Bay Community Hospital (at that point we didn’t know he had RSV & Covid) where he was put on oxygen, and the decision was made that he needed to be in Nelson Hospital’s Paediatric Ward.

I was so relieved when we could hear the sound of the helicopter approaching. The crew worked quickly to get Corby and I ready for the flight over the Hill and onto Nelson.

After 48 hours of medical assistance at Nelson Hospital, our wee man was able to return home to Tākaka.

I will forever be grateful for the care, aroha and reassurance the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter crew gave to me and my whanau in a stressful time.

Again, I want to say THANK YOU to all of the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter Crew, Nelson Hospital and Golden Bay Community Hospital Staff. You are all true life heroes!!
